Micropep Technologies, a biotech company focused on sustainable crop protection, has raised an additional $11 million in supplemental financing, bringing the total raised in its Series B round to $40 million. The funding, announced in September 2024, was backed by Corteva and Sparkfood, with a strong focus on accelerating the development and deployment of Micropep’s micropeptide-based biosolutions for agriculture (Business Wire).

Micropep has emerged as a leader in the field of micropeptides—short protein molecules produced naturally by plants—which have the potential to revolutionise crop protection by offering a safer, more effective alternative to traditional chemical pesticides.

A Breakthrough in Sustainable Agriculture

Micropep’s platform uses AI to discover and produce micropeptides that offer new modes of action against pests and diseases, addressing one of the most pressing issues in modern agriculture: resistance to traditional chemical pesticides. Micropeptides are unique in that they combine efficacy with safety, offering farmers a solution that minimises environmental impact while maintaining high levels of crop protection.

“We believe that micropeptides represent the future of crop protection, and this additional funding will allow us to bring these solutions to market at scale,” said Anouk Veber, Head of Ventures at Sparkfood (Business Wire).

The company’s micropeptide-based solutions are designed to target specific pests and diseases without harming beneficial organisms or leaving harmful residues on crops. This is particularly important as consumers and regulatory bodies increasingly demand safer, more sustainable agricultural practices.

Expanding Partnerships and Global Reach

The new funding will enable Micropep to solidify its market position, strengthen existing partnerships, and form new collaborations with leading R&D, manufacturing, and distribution companies in the agricultural sector. This includes partnerships with global leaders like Corteva, a key player in the development of innovative agricultural technologies (Business Wire).

“Corteva’s support reflects the potential of Micropep’s technology to reshape the crop protection landscape. Our partnership with them will help accelerate the commercialisation of micropeptide-based solutions, ensuring that more farmers have access to these groundbreaking technologies,” said a representative from Micropep (Business Wire).

Looking to the Future

With its proprietary AI-powered discovery platform, Micropep is well-positioned to lead the next wave of innovations in sustainable agriculture. The company’s ability to scale the production of micropeptides and apply them across various crops makes it a key player in the fight against agricultural pests and diseases.

“Our focus is on delivering safe, effective solutions that benefit both farmers and the environment. This funding will allow us to continue developing our technology and bringing it to more farmers around the world,” said Micropep’s CEO (Business Wire).

As the company continues to expand its global footprint, Micropep’s technology offers a promising solution to the growing challenges of food production and sustainability, ensuring that future generations have access to safer and more resilient crops.
